This network has tremendous importance for our region and is the product of our long-term commitment to our many partners; the Eeyou Communications Network will manage this network. Connecting the Cree and "Jamesien" communities over a territory that covers one-fifth of all Quebec through a single fibre-optic network represents an enormous challenge. This network will provide high-speed access for all the communities in our region. The deployment of fibre-optic lines will allow connectivity for the buildings of our towns and schools. It will also allow private providers of telecommunications services to work with ECN to offer new services to the people of the communities in our area. The ECN project will be a powerful addition to the future of our region, because it will encourage competition and allow the different communities in the territory to work together. The creation of ECN is proof positive that our region can reach attain great heights when different communities work together and serve a common purpose.
